What is Usability?
Usability engineering is an approach to product development
that incorporates direct user feedback throughout the development
cycle in order to reduce costs and create products and tools
that meet user needs.
Two international standards define usability and human-centered
(or user-centered) design:
"[Usability refers to] the extent to which a product
can be used by specified users to achieve specified goals
with effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified
context of user." - ISO 9241-11
"Human-centered design is characterised by: the active
involvement of users and a clear understanding of user and
task requirements; an appropriate allocation of function between
users and technology; the iteration of design solutions; multi-disciplinary
design" - ISO 13407
NTS consciously works towards making its deliverables more
usable.
Usability: Solution to a Problem
NTS detects the most common causes of problems
in software development that are :
Technical developers are adept at understanding technical
issues and, therefore, focus on what software should do rather
than how the user will employ it.
Users' knowledge, skills and objectives often differ from
technical developers' and, therefore, confuse their struggle
with the software.
Usability Testing Services
Our designers offer a comprehensive range of usability testing
services utilising the latest industry best practices, which
include:
GUI Design Lab
Following the completion of usability testing, GUI Designers
prepare a report that details our findings and provides recommendations
on how to improve your user interface. NTS not only provides
consulting, but also provides alternative design alternatives
wherever required.
The guiding principals of Usability Design are a function
of the changing times. Especially true for the web-based products,
where we constantly update ourselves with user surveys conducted
by authoritative agencies like GVU's WWW User Survey, Nielsen
Media Research, Forrester Research etc.
